Frequently Asked Questions

Syria has opened its doors to all nationalities, and the easiest way to obtain a visa is for a host to assist you with your application and to organize your trip.

Typically the tourist visa is issued for 15 days. 

The country has experienced conflict in recent years, we travel only to the places that are safe and we are allowed to visit. 

The best time to visit Syria is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is mild and pleasant. Summers are hot, especially in the desert regions. If you choose to come in the summer aim to visit mountains and beaches.

Respect for local customs is important. When visiting religious sites, dress modestly with knees and shoulders covered. Be respectful of the locals by asking before taking their photo. Refrain from talking about politics. 

The cuisine is Middle Eastern, Mediterranean fare. It is fairly easy to find options at the restaurants for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and nut-free. Please mention in your inquiry if you have restrictions. 

We recommend you book your ticket through the Beirut airport. Amman and Damascus airports are possibilities as well.

Shopping is done in markets, and local shops. Prices are not fixed and can vary greatly between places, be ready to barter! Our guides are happy to assist if you have something specific in mind to buy!

The local currency accepted is Syrian Lira. USD or Euro can be exchanged at the border when you enter. ATMs and Credit Cards are unavailable.  

Yes, tipping is practiced, although a there is not a specific percentage. Tip your tour guide, driver and at restaurants. 

Syria is famous for its silk textile, which is called brocade, also wood and mother-of-pearl mosaic, dried fruits, baklava, spices, olive oil soap and nuts.
